The Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Coordinating Center leverages the expertise and resources of member research institutions to accelerate the quality and pace of transformative research on diseases disproportionately affecting underserved populations and communities.

RCMI CC Values Statement

RCMI CC unites academic researchers, medical professionals and community partners through technology and health science innovation to reduce health disparities. RCMI CC was established in 2007 by a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the minority research universities, colleges and medical schools of the RCMI program under a common goal of fostering collaborations across RCMI institutions, with the aim of improving minority health and reducing health disparities. Collaborations within and beyond the RCMI community are expected to promote joint grant applications and publications and accelerate the pace of basic, clinical and translational research.

Research Centers in Minority Institutions Coordinating Center (RCMI CC) will lead health science innovation that focuses on improving the health of underserved communities and be a valued resource of health related research for these communities.

RCMI CC Mission

RCMI CC fosters and supports inter-institutional collaboration to maximally leverage outcomes, resources and expertise across member RCMI institutions, enhancing research capacity and accelerating the understanding and treatment of diseases, with a focus on those that disproportionately affect underserved communities.

RCMI is building state-of-the-art biomedical research opportunities for the next generation of researchers.

Program elements include RCMI Specialized Centers, Clinical Research Education and Career Development (CRECD), and RCMI Coordinating Centers (RCMI CC). Key deliverables for RCMI:

high-quality professional and research training programs
laboratories and facilities outfitted with invaluable instrumentation and equipment
ethical and sensitive education and outreach for communities served by the RCMIs
grants for institutions committed to awarding doctoral degrees in the health professions or health-related sciences to students from underrepresented populations

RCMI CC supports investigators with their collaborative, multi-site research occurring across the Network.

Principal investigators, clinicians, data managers, statisticians, and communications and community professionals comprise the working teams for the Administrative Coordinating Core, Investigator Development Core, Research Infrastructure Core, Evaluation Core, and Community Engagement Core of RCMI CC. These teams leverage the robust resources of the RCMI community to bolster scientific discovery, streamline research development and implementation processes, and accelerate delivery of culturally appropriate and cost-effective outcomes to the doorsteps of the scientists and patients.
